“The Gangs All Here”Socializing in the Industry!

As someone who is venturing in the world of social networking, I am both scared and excited at the same time. The world of the entertainment industry can be an adventurous and scary place when trying to get your name out there. You want to open yourself up anyone and showcase what you could bring to their agency or theatre company etc. etc.

The main problem with me is that while I consider myself a confident young man who is decently social, it’s still a scary thought for me to start a conversation and keep it going without any dead air. Small talk is such a delicate thing for anyone on the spectrum to deal with because trying to engage with someone you’ve never met or barely know is like BS’ing a project in front of the class the day it is due. Yeah, it can be THAT scary.

I try to remember what my parents and mentors have told me from the day I got to college was that “being yourself” and “find what makes you unique and use that to your advantage.” It’s not as easy as it sounds. The fear of being judged or not being interesting enough among friends and colleagues. One of the many reasons I became an actor was to become more confident socially and escape the reality I lived in on a daily basis. So far, it has paid off exponentially.

Not only have I gained a few connections going ahead in the long run for my career, but I have gained many life long friends. In this crazy business, the main thing that I have learned is that talent is one thing, but being a nice person will not only get you work, but get you noticed. A simple “thank you” and “hello” can go a long way. I really do feel that being an actor has not only made me more confident socially, but has opened my eyes to how supportive and loving this particular community is and what I hope it continues to be. The one thing that I have noticed when in a show is the sense of being a part of a FAMILY!

Not one show have I been did I feel left out. This is dating back to high school to the present day. From the first read through everyone welcomes everybody with open arms and from that point on bonding in and out of rehearsal ensues. That means late night Buffalo Wild Wings, cast parties… Themed of course and most importantly memories that will be cherished for years to come.                                                                    “To the family we choose”

Obstacles will come up and there will be days when I won’t be able to get the rights words out or be too shy or scared to say something. The one thing that I do remember is that no matter how hard those days can get, there is a tomorrow and a new beginning or one could call it… A NEW HOPE! *Cue me putting on sunglasses and screaming YEAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!*
